Matthew Cornish - Hero
British soldier Cpl. Matthew Cornish gave his life for the future of Iraq. He leaves behind a wife
and two young children.
The father of a British soldier killed in Iraq has paid tribute to his son and said he was very
proud of him.
Corporal Matthew Cornish, 29, was serving with the 1st Battalion The Light Infantry. He was married
with two young children.
He was injured in an explosion and taken to hospital, where he later died.
His father Robin, 60, from Pool-in-Wharfedale, West Yorkshire, said: "I'm proud of him as
a soldier and as a son. He did the Army proud."
"He would have got on. He was determined to go up the ladder and he would have got there,"
he said.
Cpl Cornish, who grew up near Otley, West Yorkshire, was married to Abby, 28, and had two children,
Ethan, aged three, and one-year-old Libby.
He joined the Army in Leeds and was stationed in Cyprus before serving in Northern Ireland, Sierra
Leone and Iraq.
His third tour of the country, in the 20th Armoured Brigade, was three months old when he was
killed.
The sacrifice that Matthew made is not the end. His family has made a sacrifice too. The terrorists
took from Ethan and Libby their father. A sacrifice they shall not even understand they have made
for many years to come.

You are sadly missed. Even though i haven't seen you for a long while you are still in our thoughts. My fond memories of you are in Cyprus, yes you and beavus making vodka jelly and eating it at all hours, when you werent meant to!! Also attending our house for xmas dinner and there was a few nights and days where you took a trip down to the Rugby Club to join us for a drink!! We had a good Milan platoon then!!
Well Pastie, you would be welcome at mine at any time and i would get the jelly ready for your arrival. I was so proud of your wife Abby as she was so brave and strong on 'Brothers in Arms'.
Well done Abby!! A good man sadly missed by all.

Areet m8 you don`t know me but I`m an ex soldier who was in the 7th battalion the durham light infantry.
so to me you are one of my brothers,
I am so sorry you lost your life m8 to those coward b****ds,They can`t fight like normal soldiers thay have to plant bombs the hide like girls.
We should just nuke the lot of them as they all hate us,and we are there to help them.
There are to many of our lads dieing over there and they don`t even thank us for making there lifes better for them.
Take care m8 no more patroles for you just go to heavens NAFFI and have a few beers m8 you deserve it.
