Matthew Cornish - Hero
British soldier Cpl. Matthew Cornish gave his life for the future of Iraq. He leaves behind a wife
and two young children.

The father of a British soldier killed in Iraq has paid tribute to his son and said he was very
proud of him.

Corporal Matthew Cornish, 29, was serving with the 1st Battalion The Light Infantry. He was married
with two young children.

He was injured in an explosion and taken to hospital, where he later died.
His father Robin, 60, from Pool-in-Wharfedale, West Yorkshire, said: "I'm proud of him as
a soldier and as a son. He did the Army proud."

"He would have got on. He was determined to go up the ladder and he would have got there,"
he said.

Cpl Cornish, who grew up near Otley, West Yorkshire, was married to Abby, 28, and had two children,
Ethan, aged three, and one-year-old Libby.

He joined the Army in Leeds and was stationed in Cyprus before serving in Northern Ireland, Sierra
Leone and Iraq.

His third tour of the country, in the 20th Armoured Brigade, was three months old when he was
killed.

The sacrifice that Matthew made is not the end. His family has made a sacrifice too. The terrorists
took from Ethan and Libby their father. A sacrifice they shall not even understand they have made
for many years to come.

had a lovely lunch with mum today, she glowed in a new pink top with the normal tan we were both so jealous of. The only downfall was your absence.

Can you hear me?
Can you hear my cries?
Now that you're gone,
From all of our lives.
We can't see you,
But I can feel you're near,
I can hear your voice,
A whisper in my ear.
I know you're inside me,
In my heart and my soul,
But I keep on crying,
It's beyond my control.
Promise me you'll stay,
Close by my side,
Promise me you won't go,
And through life be my guide.
Watch me and protect me,
Help me good times and bad,
Share in my joy,
Or comfort me when I'm sad
Keep me from harm,
Stay with me forever,
Love and care for me,
And leave my side never.

Love you babe xxxx

IN MEMORY OF THE FALLEN

Look to the skies
On a crystal clear night
For there spread before you
Is a wondrous sight

You may be wondering
What’s all the glory?
Just hold on a minute
And hear my story

On September 11 2001
America’s world tore apart
Evil was unleashed that day
It struck right at their heart

Then over to England
This evil curse spread
Creating havoc and mayhem
Leaving innocents dead

So decisions were made
And tactics were planned
To stamp out this curse
In its own home land

Coalition forces deployed
From land, sea and air
To rid our world
Of the evil hiding there

Its five years on now
There’s no end in sight
And while evil still lurks there
We’ll stand and we’ll fight

And for each life that is lost
A new star will be born
Shining down on the earth
From dusk until dawn

You see stars hold the spirits
Of those lives now fallen
Our brave men and women
Whose lives that were stolen

But their memories live on
In those stars up above
They’re resting in peace now
Still holding our love

Now look to the skies
On a crystal clear night
You’ll see spread before you
A truly, wondrous sight.

Much love and respect to you all
