Matthew Cornish - Hero
British soldier Cpl. Matthew Cornish gave his life for the future of Iraq. He leaves behind a wife
and two young children.

The father of a British soldier killed in Iraq has paid tribute to his son and said he was very
proud of him.

Corporal Matthew Cornish, 29, was serving with the 1st Battalion The Light Infantry. He was married
with two young children.

He was injured in an explosion and taken to hospital, where he later died.
His father Robin, 60, from Pool-in-Wharfedale, West Yorkshire, said: "I'm proud of him as
a soldier and as a son. He did the Army proud."

"He would have got on. He was determined to go up the ladder and he would have got there,"
he said.

Cpl Cornish, who grew up near Otley, West Yorkshire, was married to Abby, 28, and had two children,
Ethan, aged three, and one-year-old Libby.

He joined the Army in Leeds and was stationed in Cyprus before serving in Northern Ireland, Sierra
Leone and Iraq.

His third tour of the country, in the 20th Armoured Brigade, was three months old when he was
killed.

The sacrifice that Matthew made is not the end. His family has made a sacrifice too. The terrorists
took from Ethan and Libby their father. A sacrifice they shall not even understand they have made
for many years to come.

A Letter From Heaven

I see tears fall down your face When your thoughts have turned to me. Just know that I’m in heaven, With my Lord, who’s set me free. No pain or sadness do I feel, For God is by my side. The beauty here in Heaven Is now where I reside. I know it’s hard for you to cope For you can’t feel my touch. But every moment, I can see And love you very much. When you are at your lowest And feel you can’t go on, Look towards the heavens The light will be turned on. Talk to me, just like you did On earth when I was there. You see, I’m not so far away … Only as far as a prayer. And when it’s time for you to join Me up in Heaven above. It’s then that you will realize, The Golden Place of love. For here there is no sadness, Just everlasting light. Someday we will be joined again, When it’s time to take your flight.

I really miss you babe, I want you to be here with us where ur meant to be. I feel so lonely & when I cry it hurts so much. Nothing will take the pain away. I love you & so do the kids. But I know you won't be here to see them grow up & to play football with them. I wish you could have been here for Ethan's birthday. love you loads, night babe xxxx

There is discipline in A Soldier
you can see it when he walks,
There is honor in A Soldier
you hear it when he talks.
There is courage in A Soldier
you can see it in his eyes,
There is loyalty in A Soldier
that he will not compromise.
There is something in A Soldier
that makes him stand apart,
There is strength in A Soldier
that beats from his heart.
A Soldier isn't a title any man
can be hired to do,
A Soldier is the soul of that man
buried deep inside of you.
A Soldier's job isn't finished after
an 8 hour day or a 40 hour week,
A Soldier is always A Soldier
even while he sleeps.
A Soldier serves his country first
and his life is left behind,
A Soldier has to sacrifice what
comes first in a civilian's mind.
If you are civilian -
I am saying this to you.....
next time you see A Soldier
remember what they do.
A Soldier is the reason our land
is 'Home of the free',
A Soldier is the one that is brave
protecting you and me.
If you are A Soldier -
I am saying this to you.....
Thank God for EVERY SOLDIER
Thank God for what YOU do!

thinking of you Matthew and sending you, Abby and the children all our love x x x

When you wonder the meaning of life and love
Know that I am with you
Close your eyes and feel me kissing you
In the gentle breeze across your cheek
When you begin to doubt that you shall ever see me again
Quiet your mind and hear me
I am in the whisper of the heavens
Speaking of your love
When you lose your identity
When you question who you are and where you are going
Open your heart and see me
I am the twinkle in the stars smiling down upon you
Lighting the path for your journey
When you awaken each morning not remembering your dreams
But feeling content and serene
Know that I was with you
Filling your nights with thoughts of me
When you linger in the remnant pain
Wholeness seeming so unfamiliar
Think of me
Know that I am with you
Touching you through shared tears of a gentle friend
Easing the pain
As the sunrise illuminates the desert sky
In that breathtaking brilliance, awaken your spirit
Think of our time together, all too brief, but ever brilliant
When you were certain of us together
When you were certain of your destiny
Know that God created that moment in time
Just for us
I am with you always.

our love to you and the children Abby x x x x

Nothing is ever truly gone
like a puddle of water after the rain
It evaporates back into the clouds
and sometime later returns again.
Like the memory you'll forever hold
of your loved one that pasted on.
They are a part of your thoughts and heart
therefore they'll forever live on.
Yet as for now they are resting
for now they are at peace.
Say so long, never goodbye,
until once again in heaven you'll meet.

Love to you Abby, Ethen & Libby xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
